BMJ Knowledge Centre is recruiting a health informatician who will play a significant role in enabling the intelligent application of our clinical decision support (CDS) content.
You will be responsible for the practical delivery of BMJ Knowledge Centre informatics strategy by developing, maintaining, improving and monitoring the use of machine interpretable CDS content and metadata. You will also be responsible for clinical terminology database maintenance. As part of the role you will be expected to identify areas for improvement and development to ensure the accuracy and reliability of BMJ’s CDS metadata.
The ideal candidate will have practical experience of clinical terminologies covering diseases, and medication and their use in clinical systems in order to support BMJ with the integration of CDS content into the clinical workflow. They will have a demonstrable interest in CDS and a flair for developing novel technical approaches to manipulate data and content.
Responsibilities
- As an Assistant Health Informatician, you will be responsible for maintaining clinical content metadata for our CDS products using international clinical standards such as SNOMED-CT and ICD10. Where we use internally developed metadata you will maintain mappings between that and international standards or equivalent metadata of partner organisations.
- Process incoming terminology updates from partners and standards bodies to be used within our internal content management systems.
- Collaborate with the team to evaluate business needs and lead on project implementation to develop new areas of terminology based metadata and mappings.
- Implement new processes with external partners to scale the degree of machine interpretable content and metadata we maintain.
- Support the department with ad hoc databases queries of our content structures and metadata.
- Answer informatics queries from prospective customers about our existing CDS content structures and APIs.
- Maintain customer facing health informatics documentation on our existing content structures and APIs in cooperation with our Technology Department
- Liaise with external suppliers to resolve issues related to our clinical terminology platform
Qualifications
- Educated to degree level in health services research, biological sciences, pharmacy, nursing, medicine or equivalent professional experience.
- A postgraduate qualification in Health Informatics or equivalent professional experience.
- Preferably at least 2 years experience in a health informatics role manipulating medical or scientific data for the healthcare or life science sector
